How to Check If You’re In

Step 1: Check Your Model Menu

Open ChatGPT on desktop or mobile, click the model selector, and see if “GPT-5” (or “GPT-4o with GPT-5 capabilities”) is an option. If it’s there, you’re in.

  • In Settings → Data Controls → Export Data, request your account logs.

  • Inside, find a file named:

    • conversations.json

    • or model_interactions.json

  • These files record each conversation, including which model was used.

     

Step 4: Open the File in a Proper Viewer

  • Use Notepad++, VS Code, or another advanced text editor.

  • Avoid basic Notepad — it will struggle with large JSON files.

     

Step 5: Search for Model Names

  • Press CTRL + F (or CMD + F on Mac).

  • Search for "gpt-4" (with quotes) and scroll to find the last entry.

  • Then search for "gpt-5" (with quotes) — the first entry after the last GPT-4 is your exact upgrade moment.
